SSPH+ Certificate in Public Health

How to apply:

  • The PhD candidate must report the thesis defense date by emailing awalser@ssphplus.ch within 2 weeks after the defense.
  • The complete application for the certificate must be submitted within one year of the thesis defense.

Key Documents

Requirements to obtain the certificate: ​

  • Earn at least 18 ECTS credits during the PhD program.
  • Successfully complete courses in all four of the following study fields, with a minimum of 2 ECTS in each:
    • Epidemiology
    • Social and Behavioral Sciences in Health Research
    • Health Systems Research
    • General Scientific Skills
  • Course attendance requirements differ by enrollment date:
    • For students enrolled before 1 September 2023:
      • Successfully complete at least 3 SSPH+ courses (each 1 ECTS or more) such as IGC courses or seasonal school courses.
    • For students enrolled on after 1 September 2023:
      • Successfully completed at least 4 SSPH+ courses (each 1 ECTS or more) such as IGC courses or seasonal school courses and attend at least 1 SSPH+ Students Meeting during enrollment.

Application submission

To apply for the SSPH+ Certificate in Public Health, please email the following to awalser@ssphplus.ch:

  • Completed Application Form for the SSPH+ Certificate, signed by both the PhD candidate and their supervisor
  • A single PDF containing all course certificates (in the order listed on the application form)
  • A scanned copy of the final PhD diploma from the home university

Please note:

The certificate can only be awarded after the student submits a copy of their final PhD diploma from their home university.

SSPH+ does not grant doctoral degrees or titles. These are awarded solely by the student’s university, according to its own rules and regulations.
