University of Basel
With nearly 60 SSPH+ Faculty members, the Basel based academic institutions have built a large multi-disciplinary research constituency, rooted in four faculties of the University (Sciences, Medicine, Humanities, Economics). The >40 SSPH+ faculty members from the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) are affiliated with the Science Faculty and the Medical Faculty.
The Swiss TPH is a world-leading institute in global health, associated
with the University of Basel, and combines research, education and
services at the local, national and international level. More than 850
people from ~80 nations work at Swiss TPH focusing on infectious and
non-communicable diseases, environment, society and health as well as
health systems and interventions. Swiss TPH also leads the SAPALDIA
study, which is the only national population-based cohort study and
biobank of Switzerland. It is ongoing for 30 years.
SSPH+ also embraces scientists from institutes of the University of
Basel, namely the Institute of Nursing Science, the European Center of
Pharmaceutical Medicine, several from the Department of Clinical
Research (including the Basel Institute for Clinical Epidemiology and
Biostatistics), the Department Sport, Exercise and Health and the
Institute of Biomedical Ethics.
Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH)
Each year, the SSPH+ Lugano Summer School is jointly organized by SSPH+, the Institute of Economics at the Università della Svizzera italiana and Swiss TPH. The Lugano Summer School program addresses the needs of public health professionals, researchers and graduate students who are looking to improve their competences in public health related fields and to create a platform of exchange between the faculty and all participants.
Swiss TPH offers a unique learning environment in a wide range of topics, including international health, epidemiology, infection biology, clinical practice, insurance medicine and management and more
European Center of Pharmaceutical Medicine (ECPM)
ECPM, founded in 1991, has established a reputation as one of the premier European training centers in pharmaceutical medicine. Courses provide expert knowledge in medicines development, clinical research, and regulatory sciences. Broad research activities address, amongst other topics, the public health and economic impact of medicines and their utilization.
The Institute of Nursing Science
