The researchers carry out interdisciplinary research work in close collaboration with their partners. The majority of the SSPH+ faculty members are affiliated with the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine (ISPM), which currently has staff from over 20 countries committed to global excellence and innovation through local impact. During the last 50 years, thousands of scientists and clinicians formerly and currently affiliated with ISPM have conducted interdisciplinary research in social
and behavioral health, clinical epidemiology and biostatistics, and environmental health to prevent disease, promote health, and advance health knowledge internationally.
The Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine (ISPM)
ISPM has established important new local, regional, national, and international collaborations with the University of Bern's Oeschger Centre for Climate Change Research and the Center for Space and Habitability, with Schweizer Paraplegiker-Forschung, Harvard's T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Erasmus University Rotterdam, and the Federal State Budgetary Organization National Cardiology Research Center of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.
ISPM offers courses for students of medicine, biomedicine, and biomedical engineering as well as in postgraduate and PhD programs of Bern and of the Swiss School of Public Health. ISPM hosts the coordination office of the SSPH+ PhD Program in Public Health and the new SSPH+ Inter-university Graduate Campus. The new Academic Board of the Graduate Campus is chaired by a senior staff member of ISPM.
