GlobalP3HS Programme
GlobalP3HS was an innovative doctoral programme that recruited and trained talented students from around the world to strengthen the global public health workforce. The programme emphasized interdisciplinary research addressing public health topics with a focus on improving health globally.
A key feature was the “sandwich model,” enabling students from low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) to conduct research on health challenges in their home countries. They completed coursework and received research training in Switzerland while being co-supervised by partners in their LMIC. Students returned home for fieldwork, ensuring local relevance and capacity-building.
Key Outcomes:
- 49 students from 32 countries completed the programme, including 20 under the sandwich model.
- Research led to around 300 academic and lay publications (Open Access).
- Students received at least 18 ECTS of academic training and gained non-academic skills through internships.
GlobalP3HS helped build a skilled public health workforce and fostered long-term research collaborations, contributing to stronger health systems globally.
