SSPH+ offers its PhD students a training program on how to translate important scientific research of today to the general public.
Raising awareness for public health and the SDG’s of the United Nations is more important than ever, particularly in light of the recent global pandemic. The SSPH+ will showcase Swiss public health sciences related to the 17 SDG’s at the Swiss Pavilion of the Dubai Expo 2020 (postponed to Oct 2021-March 2022) during its "Health and Wellness week” (30.01-05.02.22). Our appearance is based mainly on the inputs of students from SSPH+ partner institutions. One of the ways that SSPH+ PhD students can get involved is through the Expo Dubai Training Program.
The pandemic especially highlights the importance of communicating scientific knowledge to the general public in an clear and coherent manner. The focus of the Expo Dubai Training Program is thus centralized on developing the skills needed to successfully translate important research to a lay public. Each training offer of the Expo Dubai Training Program is therefore tailored to facilitate PhD students in cultivating skills that are complimentary of the following aims:
The courses are complementary to one another but may also be taken individually. 1 ECTS is awarded for participating in all the components of EACH training offer whilst students who take all 3 training offers will receive maximally 3 ECTS.
ScienceFlashTalk Training facilitates 3-minute speed talks on public health sciences that are informative yet entertaining. A defining characteristic of this course is that students will learn how to communicate their research to a lay audience in an exciting, innovative and engaging way, within a limited time frame.
