Building on a recent Swiss TPH Scientific Retreat that focused on equity, power, and justice in global health, this session aims to bring those conversations one step further to a broader SSPH+ audience. Participants will critically explore systemic barriers, historical narratives, and structural inequities shaping research, funding, and partnerships. Envisioned outcomes include raising awareness of structural inequities, providing practical tools for decolonizing research practices, and strengthening networks committed to justice, inclusivity, and transformative global health action.
This session will combine short input presentations with facilitated group discussions to explore power, privilege, and equity in global health. Participants will engage in critical reflection on dominant narratives, systemic barriers, and structural inequities that shape research and practice. Interactive methods including small-group case analyses, reflective exercises, and participatory mapping of personal, institutional, and funding dynamics, will help participants identify actionable strategies for allyship and equitable collaboration. The session emphasizes co-creation of knowledge, fosters dialogue between early-career and senior researchers, and promotes collective commitment to reimagining global health practices that advance justice, inclusivity, and structural transformation.
