SSPH+ Certificate in Public Health

Students enrolled in the IGC can obtain the SSPH+ Certificate in Public Health

The PhD candidate reports the date of the defense to awalser@ssphplus within 2 weeks after the defense has taken place

The complete application for the final certificate must be handed in within one year after the thesis defense

To obtain the SSPH+ Certificate in Public Health, the student must have: ​

  • earned a total of minimum 18 ECTS or more
  • successfully attended courses in the following 4 study fields during the PhD work (a minimum of 2 ECTS is required for each field):
      • Epidemiology
      • Social and behavioral sciences in health research
      • Health systems research
      • Transferable skills and other public health relevant courses


The SSPH+ Certificate in Public Health can only be awarded after the student has handed in a copy of his/her final PhD diploma of his/her university.

Note: SSPH+ does not award doctoral titles or degrees. This is the sole authority and responsibility of the university at which the student is enrolled. Universities award PhD degrees according to their own regulations, which PhD students need to follow.

Application for the SSPH+ Certificate in PH

To get the SSPH+ Certificate in Public Health, the following documents need to be sent by email to awalser@ssphplus:

  • Application form for SSPH+ Certificate in Public Health (see below), signed by the PhD candidate and by the supervisor
  • One PDF with all course certificates (same order as on the list on the application form)
  • Scan of the final PhD diploma of the home university
