Swiss Learning Health System (SLHS)

The Swiss Learning Health System (SLHS) initiative, financed by the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) for a further 4 years term, entered into full swing in 2022. Currently 29 PhD students, enrolled at 10 different universities (9 of which are also part of SSPH+), are actively involved in the network activities. These young researchers, in addition to their usual doctoral pathway including training and research, are engaged in implementing a learning health system to strengthen the relationship between science, policy and practice by drafting policy briefs and organizing stakeholder dialogues (see an overview of the topics here). A new development in 2022 was the establishment of an SLHS advisory board consisting of individuals who play important roles in the Swiss health system. It is expected that this board will help to identify topics of relevance for the SLHS more effectively than in the past and in better agreement with the stakeholders’ expectations. Finally, it is important to emphasize the ongoing effective collaboration of the SLHS team with the Health Systems and Policy Monitor of the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies.
