Young Research Editorials (YRE) is an editorial series of the International Journal of Public Health and a training initiative of SSPH+. The series is designed to actively engage PhD students in scientific publishing by entrusting them with editorial leadership. The YRE series is led by a board of PhD students affiliated with SSPH+ institutions who identify timely public health topics, acquire and review submissions, and take editorial decisions. The editorials are authored by PhD students and early career researchers from around the world and address pressing issues in contemporary public health - read more on the topics here.
In 2025, nine editorials were published within the YRE series. Six were part of the Call for Papers on Public Health and Healthy Longevity. The remaining editorials addressed diverse topics including migrant access to healthcare, Global North–South collaboration in the treatment of sickle cell disease, and initiatives to detect pediatric non-accidental burns. Authorship reflected broad international representation across both the Global North and South, with contributors affiliated with institutions in the United States, Switzerland, China, Mexico, Argentina, Malaysia, Japan, and Czechia. All these contributions can be found here.
In 2025, some changes to the YRE board were made. Namely; Diana Butrago-García and Ana Cecilia Quiroga Gutiérrez stepped down from the role of Co-Editor-in-Chief and Enxhi Qama and Germán Guerra replaced them. Enxhi Qama represented the Board at the 2025 SSPH+ Annual Students' Meeting. Currently, the Board is renewing its members, and it has welcomed Adriana Fernandes Veludo to the YRE initiative as the newest recruit. See an overview about the YRE members below.
