SSPH+ at Expo Dubai
SSPH+ was the main partner of the Swiss Pavilion at the Dubai Expo during its health and wellness week in January 2022. The project offered a fresh perspective on public health and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) of the United Nations (UN) through a project that sought to communicate SDG's to the public. One of the highlights of the project was a 3-day program of events led by SSPH+ faculty, where they provided expert lectures on SDG's from a Swiss perspective, to audiences in Dubai and Switzerland. All lectures of the Dubai Expo can be watched on the SSPH+@Expo YouTube site.
A key component of the SSPH+@Expo project was student training. Notably, the SSPH+ Dubai Expo training program offered a Scientific Flash Talk training (SFT), effective communication training and scientific debate training, where the top two winners from each program won the unique opportunity to present their research to audiences of the Swiss Pavilion live in Dubai!
SSPH+ partners, Accademia Teatro Dimitri (ATD) showcased their translation of the SGD's through artistic performances live in Dubai. These performances were also a highlight feature at the World Majlis event and at the 0-net carbon emissions pavilion of Malaysia. The artists of ATD also carried out a workshop for children of a local school in Dubai on how to get creative with physical activity.
The exhibition space of the Swiss Pavilion was occupied by SSPH+ during for three weeks, for visitors of the Expo to enjoy. SSPH+ partners, SUPSI Masters of Interaction Design students, designed and set up an engaging and informative exhibition that showcased the work of PhD students of the SSPH+ network about SDG's from a Swiss perspective. The exhibition predominantly included videos, texts, and an SSPH+ SDG quiz, which was available for visitors to participate in.
