The International Journal of Public health (IJPH) and Public Health Reviews (PHR) saw continued success in 2025. In total, the journals received 1157 submissions and published 241 manuscripts across the year. The Impact Factor (IF) of PHR rose to 4.1 in 2025, whilst IJPH now has an IF of 2.4.
The year 2025 marked the start of the journals’ 2028+ planning project, which aims to determine which direction to take once the current publishing services contract with Frontiers Media ends. Progress to date includes the formation of a Journal Steerring Committee (JSC) of SSPH+ affiliates, the production of various working documents to assist with the decision-making process, and the implementation of a survey to ascertain SSPH+ affiliates’ views on different candidate publishing companies. The coming year will bring further clarity on the issue of who will publish the SSPH+ journals in the future.
IJPH and PHR launched seven new special issue calls for papers during 2025, as well as our first Thematic Collection of previously published papers on the topic of Mental Health and Well-being in Healthcare Workers. We also began distributing a digital Table of Contents and continued sending out a biannual Newsletter, which can be found on the new For the Community section of the journal websites. We continue to use LinkedIn as the primary social media channel for news relating to IJPH and PHR.
We also continued to hold regular meetings with our growing international editorial communities in 2025. These included online “All Editor” meetings, meetings with our LATAM and Africa regional editorial communities, and interim Editorial Board Meetings (EBMs), all leading up to our in-person full EBMs in Hamburg in October 2025.
Finally, our APC (Article Processing Charge) continued to be successful, with 20 manuscripts provided funding under the SSPH+ Affiliates APC waiver programme in 2025. The swissuniversities funding for the highly successful GLOBEQUITY APC waiver programme for LMIC+ first authors ended this year. The GLOBEQUITY scheme will continue, however, by using a reserved portion of journal revenues to fund LMIC publications.
